Chouffe Houblon first drew me in like so many other beers have because of its intricate label. I'm easily distracted by bright colors and unusually sized bottles. Often, a fancy label distracts from the fact that the product inside tastes like crap. A creepy little dwarf on the front of a bottle of beer definitely raises some flags. This Dobbelen IPA Tripel did not disappoint.
As you can see, this beer has a nice golden color and is very cloudy. Just from the look of this 9% beer, you can tell it packs a powerful punch. The head is the most interesting part. I had to pour it very carefully as the head formed quickly and was very thick, reminding me of meringue pie. When a beer gets all foamy it often is treated as a bad thing, but for this and other beers the head enhances the flavor. Each sip gets filtered through the creamy topper providing a stronger flavor. Houblon taste is incredibly hoppy. This would make sense given it is brewed with three different kinds of hops - Amarillo, Tomahawk, ad Saaz. Apparently the little dwarf is named Chouffe and he wanders the earth trying to find the best hops. The mission was quite successful as the very strong flavor was quite tasty without being too overpowering. I will be drinking this beer again.
