Field Trip: Kuma's Corner - Part 2

No good burger place can be avoided, and I made my return to the glorious Kuma's Corner again last weekend. Variety being the spice of life, I tried to spice it up with the Plague Bringer, awesome both in name and ingredients: Roasted Garlic Mayo, Tortilla Strips, Chicago CO-OP hot sauce, Fresh Garlic, Pepper Jack, Sliced Jalapenos. Mouth watering yet? It should, because this burger delivered the goods. Though less spicy than I expected, it was fantastic, with just the right mixture of heat and creamy flavor. To compliment the meaty goodness, I went to the higher reaches of alcohol content, trying the 14% Australian brewed Samichlaus. Brewed only once a year on December 6, this Christmas themed beer is aged 10 months in a cask before it is bottled.
As you can easily see, the beer was quite dark. There wasn't much beer in the bottle, but that's to be expected given the high alcohol content. It smelled very good, but you could easily tell you were in store for a hefty experience. The initial taste of the beer was pretty good, because despite it being 14%, it wasn't totally overwhelming. However, it was overwhelming because it tasted like maple syrup. There was a very clear aftertaste of maple and the beer almost slid across my tongue. The taste was quite unique in this regard, and somewhat off putting. I don't think I would get this again, but I wouldn't necessarily say it was bad. The sheer badassness of the burger may have elevated my opinion of the beer, but ain't nothin wrong with that.
